With the recent fuel hike from MYR1.92 p/ltr to MYR2.70 p/ltr and the the coming increase of electricity tariff by Jul 2008 by the government of Malaysia, this without any doubt ,will definitely be followed by higher cost in many other items, which eventually leads to higher cost of living. Many people ,especially the low and low middle income earners will feel the extreme pinch in months to come.
A good government should already have a good and realistic mechanism to offset the higher cost of living when this fuel increase are being announced to the public. Yes a road tax rebate was initiated during the announcement, but do they really know if this is enough ? A slow initiation of other mechanism from the government will eventually create unnecessary increase of crime rates and unhappiness.
I urge this good government to seriously look into the plight of the people of Malaysia and quickly comes up with a reasonable mechanism to offset this coming inflation. My opinion is that, oil price increase is a global issue, hence the decision to increase the fuel price is acceptable due to the reason of factual situation in this world where an inflation is unavoidable as per se.This increase will actually reduce fuel being smuggled out of this country. As such we have to balance the income rate of the people of Malaysia to balance out this inflation. My suggestion:
1. An immediate increase of minimum wage to MYR1500.00
2. A total abolish of road tax. (This will actually shows that the government is helping Malaysian, instead of the illogical idea of restriction of foreign vehicles to fuel within the range of 30 or 50km radius.)
3. Abolish tolls. ( A tax to be implemented to all foreign vehicles.)
Thank you.
